Walk on Hinderclay Fen

Enjoy the wildlife and landscape of the Little Ouse Headwaters by joining us for our guided walks and open days. For more energetic enjoyment of the headwaters see our work party programme.

 


This year the LOHP will has started a series of Heritage Walks
. There will be two each year for the next three years, each looking at a different aspect of the upper Little Ouse valley's unique heritage. In 2011 the first looked at our geological heritage. The second will be led by the chain saw sculptors from Hearts of Oak and will visit their sculptures on the LOHP sites and the local landscapes that inspired them.

Sunday 25th September - The Little Ouse headwaters sculptures: see the valley through the eyes of the the chainsaw sculptors from Hearts of Oak, who make to LOHP's unique interpretive sculptures. Find out how the landscape and wildlife inspire their work. Meet and park on the Frith (entrance on the B1113). You will walk a distance of 5.35 miles during that day - about 1.5 hours both before and after lunch. Please bring a packed lunch - we will stop at Thelnetham village hall for lunch, where teas and coffees will be provided.

There is no charge but booking will be essential - please email the LOHP or phone Bev Blackburn on 01379 7411137.

Sunday 23rd October 10am-4pm. Art Workshop with local artisit Rosemary Humphries at Garboldisham Village Hall. Explore two of the LOHP sites and use your eyes and imagination to create artworks. Bring packed lunch. Tea and coffee provided.All ages catered for - and no need to book in advance.Art materials will be provided but you are welcome to bring your own as well.

Sunday 20th November 10am- 4pm. History Day at Blo'Norton village hall. A day exploring the rural, social and landscape history of our parishes with particular emphasis on the Little Ouse fens. Experts from the University of East Anglia will be there. Please bring your old maps, photos and aretfacts to show us. Find out more about how you can become involved in the LOHP's history project. Tea and coffe provided - please bring packed lunch. No booking necessary.

Annual talk and AGM, 7.30pm, Tuesday 6th December at Hinderclay Village Hall. The annual talk, by Mike Sutton-Croft from the Norfolk Biodiversity Partnership will be 'Stop the Alien Invasion'! The evening will start with a brief AGM followed by an illustrated round-up of the LOHP's year. The annual talk will start at about 8pm. Season refreshments are provided after the talk - as ever, contributions of finger foods and raffle prizes are much appreciated. Non-members are very welcome - we just ask them for a £2 donation to help cover costs.

Winter Walk, 10.30pm, Sunday 1st January , starting from Garboldisham Recreation Ground car park on the north edge of Broomscot Common. This will be a gentle amble to blow away the cobwebs and enjoy some of the valley's winter wildlife. Returning by lunch time - no booking required.
