Creative Arts

Background

The LOHP Creative Arts Group welcomes local artists, of all levels of experience, to join them in sharing inspiration drawn from the landscape, history and wildlife of the upper Little Ouse valley. The Creative Arts project was originally set up in 2011 as part of our Heritage Lottery Fund grant Education and Learning in the Upper Little Ouse valley. In partnership with the Sainsbury Centre for the Visual Arts, Norwich, local artists met for workshops and visits. Photographers, textile artists, painters, writers, carvers and musicians all drew inspiration from the wildlife, landscape and cultural history of our valley produced a wonderful variety of work. The project culminated in three local exhibitions in October 2014; a flavour the work exhibited can be found in our Special Edition Newsletter for January 2014.

The Creative Arts project today

Since the official end of the Heritage Lottery funded project, the Creative Fen Group has continue to work together on a variety of projects related to the valley. They meet every month to find and share inspiration for their very varied work, often using project themes, such as the changing seasons, fen peat, bees or willow weaving. Their meetings typically comprise a walk in the valley for sketching, note taking and photography, followed by tea, cake and discussion of ideas. The LOHP shares and promotes their work to a wider audience through its Newsletter News from the Ouse, and through exhibitions and the social media. The Group's most recent exhibition formed part of the LOHP's Peat Fest (a celebration of the peat beneath our feet) in May 2018. You can see some of the work exhibited in the Special Peat Edition of our Newsletter. The Creative Fen Group has had a successful exhibition at The Fox Community Pub, Garboldisham, in November 2018 and May 2019. The next exhibition at the Fox  will of 15th-17th and 22nd-24th November 2019.
